The Gray Line hop-on hop-off bus, on a 24 or 48 hour ticket.
This is a flexible sightseeing loop run by Hop On AS, a Norwegian operator, with a ticket that lasts either 24 or 48 hours from activation. Once the ticket is live, travel between stops is unlimited, so the day can be shaped around whatever matters most, whether that is a long stop at Vigeland Sculpture Park or a quick spin past the Royal Palace on Karl Johans gate.
The route strings together most of the sights visitors come to Oslo for. It passes the National Theatre and the Royal Palace, runs out to Frogner Park and the Vigeland Sculpture Park, continues past the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History, the Kon-Tiki Museum and the Fram Polar Ship Museum, then loops back past Akershus Fortress to the Opera House. Buses run roughly every 30 minutes during the season, so a missed bus is rarely a crisis.
Commentary plays through headphones in several languages, and there is Wi-Fi on board. The ticket also carries discounts at selected museums, shops and restaurants, including the Kon-Tiki Museum and The Viking Planet. Cruise passengers are particularly well served, since extra stops serve the terminals on cruise arrival days. It is not a guided walking tour, and hotel pickup is not part of the deal.
A few practical points will make the ticket work harder, based on what the listing promises and what travellers report back.
Common issues. The most consistent complaint is the audio guide: several reviewers said the commentary cuts out, lags behind the passing sights or was hard to hear at speed. One reviewer wanted a better map showing where the stops actually are, which matters when walking between them. The Viking Ship Museum is closed for renovation until 2025 or 2026, so anyone hopping off for that sight will be disappointed. Food, drinks and museum entry are all extra, and there is no hotel pickup or drop-off.
You choose between a 24-hour and a 48-hour ticket. Once activated, it allows unlimited travel between stops for the duration you picked.
You can board at any stop on the route. One option is Stop 1 at Karl Johan, in front of the National Theatre. On cruise arrival days, extra stops operate at Filipstad Cruise Terminal and Revierkaia.
No. Hotel pickup and drop-off are not included, so travellers make their own way to the nearest stop. Cruise passengers are picked up and returned at the terminal on cruise arrival days.
No. Entry fees, food and drinks are extra. The ticket does carry discounts at selected places, including 10% off at the Kon-Tiki Museum and The Viking Planet, 20% off at Paradox, and 15% off at Castello, Rorbua and the Hard Rock Shop.
The hop-on hop-off tour itself, multilingual audio commentary, headphones, Wi-Fi on board, a map and timetable, plus the museum and restaurant discounts. Onboard staff can help with directions and recommendations.
Yes. You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund.
